So, you'll have to tell me what you think of my theories about the state of things left at the end of the novel!  I had another thought... what if BOB did get his hands on the dossier long enough to just remove any reference to Annie or Wyndham Earle.  But that doesn't explain the blatantly wrong things.

Alternate theory: what if the dossier represents a shifting timeline? The reason it's significant is not because of the information in it, necessarily, but the weird small discrepancies that indicate we're looking at two different versions of the same events, some things recorded from one timeline, others from a different one. Or possibly even things that were recorded before and after events were changed.

Just a thought.

As for your theories about what's going on after the end of the novel... I'm assuming you're referring to your theory that Cooper killed Briggs. Hmm. It's possible. But I don't think Cooper went into hiding. I think there's reference somewhere in there to him officially resigning from the FBI. He could have dropped off the grid after that, I suppose. I do remember hearing that the new show may open with Cooper in Las Vegas, if that makes anything more clear about what he's up to. Hmm.

Okay, now I really need to get to sleep. So, good night. We'll continue this later.

Okay, so. I got my print copy today, and it's neat. No 3D glasses included, unfortunately, but I saw the picture of Leland with the red Bob overlay almost immediately. I'll check it out with glasses as soon as I fish them out of the funnybook collection.

Anyway. I read a bit of the opening over lunch, and ran across something I had forgotten about the dossier: it was found in a triple-locked steel box of custom make, at a crime scene still under investigation (and classified).

And the dossier itself, also custom-made, looks like it was exposed to the elements for a while. But it was made with a vulcanized rubber seal that protected the documents inside.

So. It sounds like the dossier may have been dumped somewhere before being recovered by someone who understood its significance enough that they sealed it in a metal box with a lock so complicated that it was difficult for even the FBI to get open.

Which, considering the vibe I'm been getting from what little we've seen of Cooper in the new show... I'm starting to think that he's had the dossier for quite some time, and that he left it at the crime scene.

Hmm. Hmmmm...

EDIT: The book is quite nice, by the way. Heavy paper stock, nice reproductions of all the various documents collected inside, etc. And it's made to look like the dossier, right down to the green cloth cover with the triangle embossing.

I just thought today to check and see if you'd said anything else, and hooray, you did!

So yeah, my hard copy is just fantastic, and Paul is picking it up now.  I'm excited to see what he thinks soon enough.  Unfortunately I can't find any of my 3D glasses around, so I need to find time to track some down.  Bah.

I had forgotten where the dossier was found as well, but "at a crime scene" really does lead me to believe that BOBCooper killed Garland Briggs.  Or... took him somewhere else.  I'm just fixated on the fact that both Cooper and Briggs' FBI files have been sealed and are top secret clearance way above miss TP's ability to discover.  Now I feel like the entire season is going to be about this "crime scene."  Which excites me immensely. Smile

By the way, where did you see a little bit of Cooper in the new season?  (I ask, with the internet right in front of me where I could find out myself at the click on a keyboard...)

I'm going by what I've seen of him in the handful of set photos I saw that leaked during filming. I believe I've seen him looking a bit... sinister, in a red coat.

I also understand that the new season opens with Cooper in Las Vegas (I think?), and moves back to Twin Peaks a bit later. And something I read in that same initial batch of "I don't want to look / I have to look" stuff lead me to believe that he was involved in some unsavory goings-on.
